The FN CM comes factory calibrated, tested, with batteries fitted for immediate use right out of the box!

The FN CM gauge features a cabled probe for reaching into narrow or confined spaces where a gauge with an integrated probe cannot fit. It also possesses the highest rated accuracy, and the highest precision readout of our gauge models (to 0.1µm). Gauge functions are accessed through a user-friendly scrollable menu system.

It has a rich feature set and an adjustable brightness multi-colour LED display that is easily readable even in dimly lit conditions. It includes features from our FN Evo coating thickness gauge, having both a memory and statistical functions. It is high spec and quick and easy to use - simply hold the sensor against the surface to be measured and the coating thickness is automatically displayed on the large colour LED screen.

In addition, the CM offers a selectable continous reading setting where the probe can be held and moved along a surface. This is in addition to the normal single reading setting where the probe is placed on the surface and removed to take one reading at a time.

The gauge also automatically calculates and displays statistics of minimum, maximum, average, and standard deviation of the thicknesses read.

Dual probe technology measures coatings on both ferrous and non-ferrous metals:

Unlike lower specification gauges, the FN CM has the ability to measure coating thicknesses on ferromagnetic (e.g. steel) and non-ferromagnetic (e.g. aluminium) metal substrates via its integrated dual sensors, which increase compactness. They automatically detect the substrate metal type and use the appropriate measuring technology (magnetic induction or eddy current) to calculate the coating thickness, reducing user burden and increasing efficiency. Inferior gauges are limited to measuring on either ferromagnetic or non-ferromagnetic substrates, or require manual removal and switching of sensor type and selection by the user.

  • Magnetic Induction
    Measures thickness of non-magnetic coatings (e.g. paint, plastic, enamel, rubber, powder coating, zinc chromium, copper, tin) on ferromagnetic metal base (e.g. iron, steel)
    Examples: Paint on a steel car body (most cars today). Powder coating on steel railings. Vinyl wrap and paint thickness on a car body.
  • Eddy Current
    Measures thickness of electrically non-conductive coatings (e.g. paint, plastic, enamel, rubber, powder coating, anodising) on non-ferrous metals (e.g. aluminium, brass, zinc).
    Examples: Paint on an aluminium car body (e.g. Ferrari 360, Jaguar XK8, Audi A8). Powder coating on alloy wheels. Vinyl wrap and paint thickness on a car body.
